It’s in the twenties today, and Sitkans are officially crazy. Annually, Sitkans gather at a boat ramp on Japonski Island, strip down to their bare skin and swimming trunks. Brrrr! En mass, they run to the 40F water for some shock therapy, emerging from their plunge with big grins. Another friend Shari beamed at me in her dripping bikini and gave me a quick run down on hypothermia research conducted by “Dr. Popsicle” at the University of Fairbanks.
