Advent
We are waiting.
Watching the light diminish,
Waiting for light to come.
Lighting candles, our
burning hope.

The return of growing daylight after the winter solstice (Dec 21) brings new depth to the celebration of Christmas (Dec 24). During our spirituality night this week we meditated on the darkness, and the light in our lives. During the reflection time, I came to appreciate how the darkness I encounter in working in the substance abuse field is balanced with the light and joy I draw from living in community. My house-mates bring so much joy into my life, and the Sitka community is very supportive of us as well: offering food, transportation, fun events, appreciating the work that we do...
